Russ Hodges, Christie Hill-Troglin Cox, René LeBlanc
    Texas State University

Learning frameworks courses provide students with instruction in both the theoretical underpinnings of strategic learning and the application of learning strategies. The concepts taught within these courses introduce students to the cognitive, affective, and behavioral learning strategies underpinned by conceptual frameworks drawing from educational neuroscience, social cognitive theory, behavioral psychology, adult education theory, and other related academic domains. The intent is to lay the groundwork for students to comprehend how their learning occurs and then to foster a variety of strategy choices. Students are ultimately taught to transfer and apply learning strategies to their academic program. This workshop will introduce appropriate course curriculum, teaching strategies, course activities, and recent research.

  • Sunday, October 20, 2019 1:00pm - 4:00pm

Angela Guadian-Mendez, Zak Cernoch, Joseph Duran, Kristal Eaker, Stacy Ybarra Evans
    Alamo Colleges District

The Alamo Colleges District Transfer Advising Guides (TAGs) highlights the steps necessary to construct transfer advising guides as part of the Guided Pathways national model. While Guided Pathways help students navigate degree programs, community college students face the additional challenges for transfer into programs that have additional degree requirements and expectations. These knowledge and planning gaps can lead to transferable credits that are not degree applicable and add extra time towards degree completion. Alamo Colleges District have built Transfer Advising Guides that specifically address the transfer problem, and help students build seamless degree plans across multiple institutions.
